Velvia 100: why so expensive?

I bought a few rolls of velvia 100 to try out and cant belive the price! 15 cnd a roll. this is a cheap big store, 6 $ for a roll of hp5 26exp. koda crome 64 is only 12$.
Why is the price so high, and what prices are in your area?

$5.29 at B&H for Velvia 100 (but you could have looked that up yourself). A Fuji Professional dealer also is likely to have to keep pro films in a refrigerator, which will add to the cost.

Thats probably in the usa, and they keep all slide, afga, MF and LF films in a fridge. Its an agfa fridge with variable temp control

This can be a very expensive hobby you had better get used to paying. If you don't like the price where you got it, order online.

That is one of the films that I prefer using - Velvia 100 (120 roll). Awesome results in pure colour. Around here in the Niagara Region, I go to Henry's and the price is about $10-15. At least when bought in person I can guarantee that the film has been stored in the fridge.

I believe for the quality of Velvia, the price is right.

I only pay $4.71 US if I buy 5 rolls of it, and $5.35 if I buy 1 roll, sounds like your getting shafted by your local shop, of course you have to pay to play! Film cost is the least of my worries..

It's typically bout 5$ USD here, so not like its that deathly expensive... Try buying a roll of Kodak HIE here in the US, its like 13 USD a roll. It also depends on where you get the film, if its from a chain store like Ritz, an isolated camera shop, or a shop in the middle of a college town.

Chain stores rip you a new one for anything thats not your standard consumer color film.

B&H sells RVP for less than $4 per roll.

I usually buy roll film Velvia 100 in pro packs.

I pay about $11 Canadian per roll at home which is a lot better than what you're paying. It gets down to about $9 a roll when I buy a pro pack (20 rolls). The US prices are tempting me, however, especially now that the Canadian dollar is worth about 90 cents US.

When you're buying film a roll or two at a time, it won't make sense, but if you can afford to buy 10 or 20 rolls, mail ordering is an option. You might want to wait until autumn, though, so that your film isn't cooking in some delivery truck somewhere.
