Hi,

Just bought a "Veginar" 400mm 1:4 -lens from a flea market. Cost me $2.
I wonder if anyone knows anything about it? It is big, contains 2 lenses.

Anyway. Yesterday evening I built a lensboard for it and put it on to my Calumet C-1.

Check out the image I'm trying to attach. Nice bokeh!

Greetings from Finland,
Jukka

Hi Jukka,

the only Veginar I could find with Google was a lens on an old Yugoslavion slide projector sold on the French eBay. This makes me suspect your lens may be from those regions as well, possibly a relative of the Vega lenses sold on Kiev cameras? Perhaps you could ask Gevorg Vartanyan, who runs Araxphoto in Kiev and seems to be in direct contact with people from the Kiev factory (or what's left of it).
OTOH, I could be completely wrong in which case I hope someone comes along to correct me in my errors.

Very Galli-esque. Nice in spite of the fact that Veginar sounds a lot like Vegomatic.

Hmm, that wasn't the first word that suggested itself to me....

Heh! OK. Thank you gentlemen.

I guess what I have is some kind of projection lens.

Regards,
Jukka

NOW That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

When I saw the title my first thought was 'let me guess, the bottom of a pickle jar?' Gorgeous photo! Get's high marks in the crappy old worthless lens category.

Thank you fellows,

Here's a pic of my loved Veginar.

I need to build a decent lensboard for it someday.
Or perhaps not.

It certainly looks like a projection lens. Does it have an aperture? I had a few lenses from 1970s projection TVs which I played with. They were, as I recall, all long and fast triplets.

No aperture. It looks to me that the other end of the lens has been *very* hot. The barrel's color is different at the other end. Like it is burned.

My guess is now that it's a Yugoslavian-made projection lens.
