I just got to spend a whole day in the dark room and l got to catch up on a few months of negatives. I had some prints l did on both VC RC paper and fixed grade fiber paper. All the negatives were done in pyrocat. I discovered that for the same contrast of fixed grade #2, I had to go to a #4 filter for the rc VC paper. I guess there is a real difference in how the stain works on different kinds of emulsions.

There sure is and of course, it varies from paper to paper. The brown stain of pyrocat filters differently from that of PMK or ABC.
