Varionar Nikon Lens? What is this?

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me about Varionar lenses for Nikon mount? I just come upon a Varionar Auto MC 28mm f2.8 for Nikon mount and I know nothing about it and can't find any info (which I'm guessing is probably saying a lot in itself). Just wondering if this is a paper weight or if it might actually be a good lens. If you have any experience with these or knowledge of them please let me know. Thanks!

I'm guessing mediocre quality off-brand Japanese-made optic, apparently produced in most popular 70s-80s mounts. Have seen them at photo swap meets. Struck me as "meh" quality. Just don't drop any serious $ on it.

Yea thats what I thought. The absense of information led me to believe that it probably wasn't anything to write home about. Its not costing anything anyway. Thanks for the help!
