If anyone would be so kind as to inform me on the approximate value of these lenses, I would greatly appreciate it. (My story might sound familiar to many: I'm selling off accumulated gear in order to purchase a used M2, 3, 4, or 6.)

Kodak Commercial Ektar, 10 inch, f6.3, in #4 Acme Synchro shutter. Glass is perfect, shutter needs CLA as all slow speeds sound the same as 1/25 (faster speeds to 1/150 okay), with retaining ring

Apo-Nikor process lens, 305mm, f9, no shutter, with mounting flange and proper front lens cap, glass and barrel are perfect

Thank you for your time and information.

I've done some searching and have come up with these lenses and prices from Bruce's field camera store:

KODAK COMMERCIAL EKTAR LENS 7 1/2 INCH f4.5 $350.00

KODAK COMMERCIAL EKTAR LENS 8 1/4 IN. in #3 ILEX SHUT $400.00

(my 10 inch lens would fit here in this series and cost $450 - 500?)

KODAK COMMERCIAL EKTAR LENS 14 INCH $550.00

May I suggest searching completed auctions on the internet auction place for similar items.

Thanks Brad,
I think you have to be a registered bay member in order to search completed buys, and I don't want anything to do with it.

In hindsight, I'd have to say that's probably a good choice.

The 10" commercial Ektars come up there frequently and generally go for much less than $400 -- especially if the seller is as honest as you have been about the condition of the shutter. If the shutter were cla'd the lens might be expected to fetch $175 - $250.

I really have no idea what the APO Nikkor might actually be worth.

Good luck.

The prices you listed look a little high compared to the market...MPEX has a 14" Commercial Ektar for $499 and igorcamera has an 8 1/2" (just CLA'd) for $320. With the shutter on yours, I'd guess you'd be lucky to get $250 for it...$150-$175 seems a likelier price.

As for the Nikkor, the only one I can find in the eBay completed item section that actually sold went for $99.91. Three others listed with starting prices of over $200 didn't get a bid at all.

I have a 360mm Nikkor F/9. The problem with both your lens and mine is no sane person is going to mount them in a shutter. The cost of a shutter and the labour is almost what a brand new Nikon 300m would cost. Neither is long enough to excite the ULF guys. If you put it on Ebay you can hope some one will get excited enough to overbid on the thing. I think Harry's in Toronto was selling a boxed one for awhile. Or at least trying to. The asking price was quite high. But the boxed ones might have some collector appeal.

As much as Ebay is the big evil now a days, if your not paying attention to what things are selling for on there, then your not paying attention to the market place. Unfortunate as it is, Ebay is a strong driving force for many things photographic now a days.

Igor's camera has a 360 apo nikkor f9 for $225, so that is a good idea of retail. I would be interested at $200.

thanks, herb
