Assuming that one wants to purchase a new printer, mostly for creating digital negatives for cyanotype, Pt/Pd, etc---
Which printer in the 13-17" range would you purchase?
Would you use the standard ink set or other inks that will create UVblocking dig negs?
I would prefer to buy a relatively new printer so that the inks will be available for some time.
Thanks,
Les

I would probably go with either the Epson 2880 or Epson 3800 and use the Epson inkset. Depending on how much UV blocking density you need you could just print with composite black with the Epson driver, use the PDN system or use QTR as the driver.

Inks should be around for both of these prnters for a very long time.

Some of th current generation HP and Canon pigmented ink prnters also give good UV blocking density but I don't know enough about them to have a useful opinioin.

Sandy,
Thanks. I have heard some good things about the HP pigmented ink printers but so far no response from anyone that actually uses one. I will look at the differences between the two Epsons that you suggest.

Hi Les, just to put a word in for the Canon iPF 5000/5100 printers. I have been using mine for making digital negatives for 1 1/2 years now and quite happy with it. They are very reasonably priced and quite fugal with ink. The print and negative quality is high. I use it with PDN and Chart throb. To get max. uv block I use a modified RIP TRUEBW . The biggest down side is that the printer is BIG! I haven't found a media that you can't put through it. I believe Epson printers have the advantage of a larger suport group using it for making digital negatives.

Any feedback on the HP printers?
