Two questions about this, with the V850 Pro.
How do you tell the software that you are scanning with the holders or on the glass? I don't see this in the manual.
How do you launch the OCR option, for scanning type?

I'm assuming you are referring to scanning film. If so it is best to use a holder to keep the film flat. I use my 850 Pro with Silverfast Ai Studio software that has a number of possible controls. If you are scanning type is it reflective? If that is the case the removable cover would not be removed so it can keep pressure on the paper against the glass.

Sorry, I should have said, negs with the Epson holders. But I now see the button to select the holders. All good there.

But how do I scan optical character recognition, which would be with opaque (paper) originals?

When I bought my first Epson scanner years ago, the model preceding the 4990, it had the Abbyy included, along with SilverFast of that vintage, and I saw somewhere that it is part of the SilverFast SE vs 8 software, which came with the 850.
