Using meopta opemus III with mf.

Hello

I just recenty bought opemus III enlarger and it light's more from the center than from the edge of the picture. Could someone give some advice how to fix it. Here is the technical info of the enlarger:

Meopta 0pemus III

Enlarging apparatus for enlarging from negatives 6x6 cm and smaller.

Lens: Belar 4.5/75.
Condenser: two-lens of 105 mm diameter.
Lamp: opal 100 W.
Enlargement: max. 6.7x onto base plate.
Weight: 7.9 kg.
Years of production: 1969-75.

Could it be caused by that there seems to be a 50 mm belar lens instead of the 75mm listed above or could the lamp be wrong kind. I put a picture of the lamp to attachment.

Lense would probably be the reason. I put my 50 mm in mine and looked at full opening. It does indeed fall off. But, then I use the 50 for 35 mm only. The 75, on a cone shaped lense mount does not fall off at all. Some one told me to use 50 mm for small negatives only, so that is the plan.

The lens in your attachment appears to be a household lamp. Your description calls for an opal lamp which would be a ph211 or ph212 depending on wattage.
You would have vignetting if you're attempting to use a 50mm lens for 6cm film. Yes, you would need a longer focal length.

Would a 75mm lens be long enough?

For 6x6 you had best use an 80mm lens.

An Anaret-S is cheap, and very very good.
I use a 50mm for 35mm, and 80mm for MF. Both Anaret-S.

Indeed the lamp is not OK, should be an Opal lamp 75Watt or 100 Watt.

Further the Belar lens quality is rather poor. For a small amount of money I can agree with Ole to go for the Anaret serie's from Meopta.
It could be you have to change the lens plate: Belar: 23,5 mm , most modern Anaret lenses, the normally used 39mm diameter.

we resolved that issue with Tony in the chatroom. 8)

Meopta continues to make lenses with M23,5, the just sell them with a factory-installed M39 adapter theses days. Just like Schneider, some of theirs are actually M25.

I bought an used anaret (not s) 80mm in mint condition. Can't wait to test it. Tomorrow I'm going to buy the 75w opal lamp. Thats the only option beside the 150w because my lamp dealer said that they don't sell the 100w anymore.

I'm not sure but I think that the anaret s has a M39 mounting and the plain anaret has M23.5 (the one I bought is M23.5).

If some one wants to use M39 lenses with meopta you can order a M39 lens plate for meopta enlargers from here.

After having looked for it for days I was finally able to unearth my dad's old Opemus III enlarger in its original box (!) However since there is no manual of any kind and I am not familiar with enlarger terminology, I am going to describe what my initial query is.

What "extra" bits do I need to do 6x6 film on it? I can see there are two removable 35mm black "frames" that slide under prongs on the "folding trays", one on the top one, one on the bottom one, but nothing that even remotely looks like a special "frame" for the 120mm film. Is my enlarger useless for 6x6?

I thought I should ask this question first, before going into lens details.

I used an Opemus III until a couple of years ago, and I'm sure 6x6 is no problem. You just need the correct size inserts for the neg holder.

Correct size inserts eh? Hmmm, did they originally come in the enlarger package or were they an optional accessory, as I don't seem to have them. Thanks for replying.
