Using heiland splitgrade controller

Hello all

I have a Leitz v35 enlarger and a Heiland Splitgrade Controller and would like to ask a few questions please.

1.Am I correct in saying it works best with safe light in the darkroom off.

2.Am very uncertain as to my movement of the probe, do I move it slowly (or rapidly) to the darkest area then slowly (or rapidly) to the lightest area, also how long do I leave it in these areas for the best reading.

Probably very basic questions but I am new to this and am trying to come to grips with it, it is my way of combating these uncertain times and how wonderful we are to have this wonderful hobby, will give me time to become much better at what I am doing.

1. Yes, the darkroom light must be switched off. You can connect the darkroom light to the controller. Then the controller switches the light on and off.
2. Just move it like a computer mouse. You can’t do it too slow, too fast is possible, but hard. Just stop when it stops beeping.
The good thing is, it is very sensitive, it “sees” differences in density, you will not see with your eyes. You can experience this by moving it over a grey sky. Just be sure to cover the whole negative.
Depending on the scene, you will find that in some situations it is better to leave some parts out when measuring. There is some information about this in the manual, which you can download from the Heiland website.
The Comfort Unit is a great extension.

Does it not come with an instruction book in English that covers these points?

Thank you very much Frank, your advice and the video has now made it perfectly clear, was able to source a manual online but was not sure I was doing it correctly due to my thick head.
