The Cambo outfit I acquired (used, first LF camera) came with a compendium. It 'appears' that the back of this, toward the lens, might accommodate a filter holder?? Can't seem to locate one. In any event, I would hate to be always committed to using the compendium just to mount a filter.

I have seen images of Xenophon Pro Gel Holder but none actually shows how it is attached. Can anyone shed some light on this? Would it be suitable for any lens size that I might use? Anyone have alternate suggestions for a filter holder that is useable for many lenses?

There's many different Gel filter holders on the market, usually they attach to the filter thread of the lens. I've been using the Cokin P series Filters & holders for about 25 years, but Lee Filters and others make comparable systems.

I believe that some of these compendium hoods have filter holders in them, but without a picture it's difficult to say for certain. This Xenophon seems to be attached to the lens board - look at the larger picture. Is that the one you were considering?

If it's attached to the lens board that's expensive you need a holder per lens/board. The competitors just need a filter ring adaptor fo different sizes.

The Xenophon was designed to screw on to the rear of the lens board and hold gel filters.

I believe that some of these compendium hoods have filter holders in them...

That is true, and that is what I use. I mount my Kodak gel filters in 4x4 cardboard holder and they are put into the filter holder. I don't find it inconvenient at all... but I use the compendium for 90% of all shooting so it is just a normal part of taking pictures for me.
