I have seen mention of using an X ray film processor (such as a dental office would use) but have not been able to find much information when googling it.

I have been using 8x10 X ray film and processing with regular black and white chemistry but it is difficult to process without scratching.

Does anyone have experience with using an automatic X ray film processor?

I'm assuming you're using double-sided film? I've never gotten scratches using a flat-bottomed tray, and gentle agitation, every minute.

Yes, using double sided. Given that used processors are relatively cheap, I was wondering if that was a more sure fire method.

For some people, it probably would be a sure fire method. But for those who like to employ various development techniques, then I would say no. I would save my money and buy more film... but that's just me!

I have recently acquired a processor; I have not started to use it yet but it is quite hard to maintain and clean; so I would only get a processor if you were doing large volumes of processing.
