Using a Sinar Metering Back

All,
I discovered that my Sinar has a 'metering back' on it; which allows for the use of a probe. My question is what is the actual difference in backs ? What function does the metering back have that the standard back does not ?

Steve,

The major difference is that there is a slot on the side of the metering back that accepts a Sinar Probe. The probe allows you to meter off the film plane when using either a Minolta meter or a Broncolor meter.

The standard back, of course, doesn't take a metering probe due to the absence of the probe slot.

If it's an 8x10" the metering back is also larger than the non-metering back, so they take different bellows.

The metering probe allows you to do behind the lens, film plane metering at different points on the ground glass.
