Used or new Canon DSLR with WiFi

I'm looking for a non-compact Canon DSLR that has WiFi that can be used with Canon's Image Transfer Utility to transfer photos to my computer. I already have a very small Canon G7X MkII so have all the software already installed on my Mac.

Can anyone recommend a Canon DSLR with WiFi that takes good pictures and is under £500? Used would be fine if I can get better quality than a similarly priced new one. I prefer a larger body with a decent sized grip so it feels chunky. 20MP+ would be great.

Photo quality is paramount over features.

Canon 6D is a very nice full frame camera that meets your criteria.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm struggling to find one under £500 that comes with a lens. There's a few bodies available within my budget, but no kits, sadly.

Then perhaps a 70D is your absolute minimum? There are many decent Canon dslr cameras out there, but your requirement of decent size grip probably excludes the 3 digit bodies (e.g. EOS 750 and the like). In any case, it would be a good idea to actually hold the camera in your hands before buying, it's up to you to judge.

Full frame is basically out, because of you need for wifi. A 5d classic (mk I) and a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 (mk I) is old technology, but its full frame and f/2.8!

In terms of used croppers, a 70d is prosumer body and could be found with kit lens(es) (EF-S 18-55 +55-250 or 18-135), if you are lucky. The consumer bodies i.e. t6i/750d, T6, SL2 are newer, smaller, and cheaper so you can also get a 3rd party grip to make up for size.

Really depends on your specific needs and what you are willing to sacrifice.

Yep, that's also the conclusion that I arrived at last night after a few hours of research. I've ordered a used Canon EOS 70D with a lens. £500 on the dot too! It's recently been serviced so that should be a bonus. 11K shutter count which isn't too bad. I recently bought a Fujifilm X-E3 mirrorless, which takes great pictures, but the menu system and handling leave a lot to be desired.

Indeed, and that's what I ended up ordering. Ticked all the boxes for me, and it's good to know that both you and @Rowreidr suggested the 70D.

This might be a good time to quit DSLR for mirrorless, particularly Sony. DSLR is a dying concept.

Price-wise, that’s a little aggressive. Are you looking for full frame or APS-C? In APS-C land, the 200D (rebel SL2), 77D, or 80D could be good. They’re all 24MP and have WiFi that you can tether with. The 200D is the smallest, followed by the 77D, then 80D. The 200D even though relatively small, has a usable grip. The 77D isn’t bad, and the 80D is a bigger version of that with a little more heft, which I personally like as it allows for a bit more stability when shooting.

I responded before seeing this, yes a 70D would work, though to be honest, I’d have tried for a 77D as it’ll have quite a lot more dynamic range. The 70D is the last APS-C body canon put out before switching the ADC to an on sensor design resulting in significantly higher dynamic range and lower noise in later bodies.

I had a guy say that to me once. It was misting outside and his mirrorless crapped out on a job.

Just go with what works. Leave the chirping for the amateurs.

Interesting info about the 77D. I might keep a lookout for a 77D body. However my plan for next year is to switch to full frame, so the 70D is just a stepping stone for now. I’m finding the handling very good and use of it is quite intuitive.
