Does anyplace in town accept used fixer? I live on the south side of town.

Thanks!

J.

call your local trash/ recycling center
and ask when hosuehold hazardous waste disposal day is
you can probably drop it off then.

Denver.

I was wondering if any of the shops that do B&W processing will want it for the silver rather than trash it at the dump.

I was going to call around but the shops are mostly closed today.

I have a whopping liter of exhausted fixer right now and a 3 gallon bucket for waste, so I have some time to figure this out.

Thanks!

J.

That's ok, PE. You've been out of action for a while. You'll soon have your game up to speed.

I doubt if Mike's does, they're run by a bunch of bean counters and act like film doesn't even exist any more. Actually, I doubt if any camera shop does. You're on the south side so give Englewood Camera a call (303-797-0700), they're the best shop close to you, or failing that, Denver ProPhoto(303-698-1790), 2-3 miles north of there.

Your best bet might be your garbage company. Down here in Castle Rock the city has a semi-annual hazardous household waste day. I just missed mine a couple weeks ago out of inattention so I'm stuck with my crap for another 6 months.

I use the local 'pumping' company. They also service the nearby communities liquid chemical waste disposal then haul to Louisville. Collect up a 275 gallon IBC or 55 gallon drum or two at a time.

Sorry J, I hadn't realised that on APUG you can have a forum that pertains to one named town. I tend never to look at forum classification. I had thought that you had simply forgot to give the details of where you were so made a comical quip.

I thought it was funny. I figured it popped up in people's "new posts" folder without a clear reference to the Denver section.

I wish I could hop in the car and head across town to meet you at your neighborhood pub.

Let me know if you are ever in my neck of the woods. The aspens are just changing color here in the mountains, and I think the high country might have had a dusting of snow last night, so bring your camera gear.

As far as I know, Denver Pro Photo and Englewood Camera will dump used fixer for you. I've asked both places in the recent past. You might call just to make sure nothing has changed!

Perfect. I bet if I buy a few bags of chemistry and a couple of rolls of film while I'm there it will grease the wheels a little too.

Thanks!

J, thanks for your understanding. I doubt if I'll ever get to the U.S. but it's nice to know that my sense of humour has successfully flown the Atlantic :D

If that location doesn't work out, I believe there is a local Denver photo group that meets once a month. Meetings posted here or LF Forum. Good contacts who may know a place.

Another idea is to check local colleges and schools for one still doing wet darkroom courses. Akron U has been taking my spent fixer for 10-12 years. They say it is part of their greening effort, but they are happy to keep the silver. It pays a small part of maintenance.
