I just picked ud 5 boxes of old moviestudio lights. Most of it is very old and in bad condition. But there are some 600W light with barndoors on. They use something that looks like a standard halogen bulb.

My question is, can this be used for hollywood style portraits and Karsch style portraits ?

If it emits photons, you can use it.

If it blocks photons, you can use it.

Yes, you can use them.

Depends entirely on the units, possibly, most likely probably.

I use Beard lights like that for video work, and they are excellent but get dangerously hot so care is needed..

No Kino you are wrong. Mikkel you can't use them, send them to me :D
If you can fit some modern bulbs on them so you wont black out your neighbourhood when turning them on you can use them, you lucky bastard
Kind regards

If you are suitably competent electrically or know someone else who is, you could have them wired in pairs with a series parallel switch. This would run them at half voltage for setting up then you can switch to full power for metering and taking the shot. Should substantially cut down the heat.
