[...]any used camera stores that I can visit to look/purchase some old cameras/lenses? [...]
Thanks
Hi,
There's a regular second hand photo market in a club called "
stodola" in the Pole Mokotowskie district, near the Metro stop of the same name. It only seems to run every couple of weeks these days, but the next one should be this Sunday (6th)*. It's between 10 & 14, and best to be there before 12 because people tend to pack up and go home if it's quiet. There is a cover charge to get in, which was 4zl last time I was there, but don't suppose it's gone up much.
There's quite a variety of stuff for sale, but some of it is pretty expensive for what it is - Partly because old photo equipment is quite rare in Poland, and also for a couple other reason... that's not to say you can't get a bargain, or maybe find something interesting. There will be some people that speak some English, but it's mostly older generation that would have been made to study Russian rather than English.
There's also a guy on the second floor of Hala Mirowska (2 pre WWII market halls, in Wola district) in the one closest to [Aleja] Jana Pawla II street called
Foto-Larson. He does go away in summer, so it's a bit hit and miss, but he will have a note saying if he's away.
I reckon that's about it, unless there's been some new ones pop up recently. Have you checked Allegro.pl? It's where most people sell used camera stuff these days in Poland.
*don't know if he's still around, but there used to be a guy (on the steps to the left as you go in) selling Polaroid stuff who has a Polaroid museum in his (very small) flat. Not sure if he still does it, but he used to offer tours of his "musuem", which is quite an experience, so worth speaking to him if he's around : )
