I have read in a few different places that the base and lid of the 2840 print tank when put together without the center section make a tank the same size as the 2521 (2523) tank.
If this is so, can I just use the 2509N reel for 4x5 development in that tank? As parts from a print tank I won't have a center column inside and the lid is a bit different, cup vs. funnel type.
Without going to check the 2840 is equal to the 2561 tank. I think. Not the slightly smaller 2551.
The centre column and funnel are needed to complete the light trap. Plus trying to put the amount of chemicals film tends to require into tank using the cup is going to be slow.
If you pick up a centre column and a funnel then you can convert the print tank to a film tank.
Thanks Nick. Just for the hellofit, I tried processing some 4x5's in the base of the 2840 tank (removed the middle section) by springing the negatives between two sets of ridges.
Worked but pretty precarious position. And only 2 negatives at a time.
I've read some of the other threads here about making/modifying holders for the tanks but I think I would be better off with a 2905N reel and 2521 tank.
Fun toy! Gotta get some 4x5 chrome film and 3 step E6 kit now!

You need a few of the "plastic macaronis" - the things made to hold prints in place. I do most of my 5x7's in the 2830, four at a time (you really want the "winged macaronies" for that, though). Or two 8x10's, or one 24x30cm, or one 30x40cm in the 2840. I'm thinking of getting a stack of reels and center tubes so I can do lots of 4x5", 9x12cm, 6.5x9cm and 120 / 35mm at the same time.

If you add the funnel and centre column to the bottom of the 2840 tank you've got a 2521 tank
I also use the print tanks for 5x7 and above but have never needed the print clips. Plus Jobo doesn't sell them anymore. If anything my biggest problem is getting the negatives out.
