Unsung Hero's

My Unsung Hero's would have to be:

David Kachel; for his discovery of SLIMT (Selective Latent Image Manipulation Technique) to give reduced development to negatives. I'm amazed that SLIMT hasn't become popular considering how well it works and how easy it is to do. Works really well with modern films.

Lynn Radeka; for recognizing the potential of Dennis McNutt & Mark Jilg's work using pin registered masks of Lith film for controling print contrast. His refinements and further developments of their techniques, and his Masking Kit, have completely changed and improved my printing.

Who are your Unsung Hero's? Why? Was it a technique? Was it images? Who had a profound effect on you as a photographer who you think deserves more recognition?

Philip Perkis.

He was a professor of mine at Pratt Institute back in the early 80's, and I only had him for one semester, but he taught a lot about photography. I really didn't get his photographs at the time, but when I look at them now... well.. they are really exceptional. Very subtle. Excellent photographer and teacher.

1974 Yosemite NP AA workshop, Al Weber, for being Al Weber 'I just got off the phone with him a few hours back. Steve Crouch, also for being Steve Crouch AA '74 with out them I may not have stayed in photography.

Harrison Branch, the reason I started printing pt/pd, some 25 years ago.

Mr William Barns who had a photo/science class at college.
