Dear Apug members,

Was wondering if the simple Unicolor C41 Kit could be improved upon by the following:

a) Assuming good temperature control at 100 degrees, would there be a benefit to adding a stop bath
cycle followed by a 100 degree water rinse, then Fixer for 2-3 minutes then Rinse then BLIX for the
prescribed time, then rinse again followed by Stabilizer?

b) Since the preferred process is with separate Bleach and Fixer, I thought by adding these steps might
take a few more minutes of processing time but the results would be a higher quality and consistant C-41
color negative.
c) Am I missing anything? I prefer to take time monitoring temperature and time of dev/fix/blix to get
more consistent results, in the past just using the kit, I sometimes get great looking negatives, next batch
of film, gets heavy orange cast on emulsion, with effects that resemble poor fixing.
d) What stop bath should I be using for this, acetic acid indicator type or citric acid based.
e) For Fixer step, just regular Kodak powdered fixer or is there a better choice...
f) Stabilizer step will done as suggested in Unicolor directions with kit.

Lastly, would I be yielding any more film processed per litre kit, as the separate wash/stop/fix I think would
preserve the life of the Blix somewhat....

Many Thanks for your input/feedback on this.....!!

The fix, blix cycle will not help much if the blix is not strong enough which is the case in most of these types of process. Also, using a neutral fix, if you do insist on this cycle is mandatory. You cannot use an acid fix. The current C41 fix is a mix of hypo and thiocyanate.
