Hello Photrio! Haven't posted here since it was APUG but I've gotten back into film over the last couple of years and I've noticed this discoloration on many of the Kodak films I have bought lately that is always right where the film enters the canister . I don't remember any film I bought earlier this year being like this so I was just wondering if is this normal or a defect? Also just to be clear this is before exposure and processing.

Any help would be appreciated!

That is just a stress mark that occurs when you bend undeveloped film against an edge.

The exposed leader has probably printed out. This is normal and I've noticed it with pretty much any film I have used.

This. Bending just bents the film.
And what's funny - you can move the leader in-out for additional printouts :D

This is especially visible with Tacma films that have a green coating.

Thanks for the replies! I figured it wasn't a big deal but I was just wondering what causes it.

light!

if you place a bit of the undeveloped leader in the sunlight for a day, it will be quite a bit darker. this was one of the steps that lead to photography as we know it.
