My Kaiser enlarger has an under the lens filter holder optional accessory (it has the red filter built-in before the lens and a multigrade head) to hold common 6-something cm rectagular filters and screw in ones. I got it to use it for special effects when printing.
My first thought was to get fog or diffussion filters to do the work I have been doing with stockings (see my other thread about it). But there are lots which might seem very silly and cheesy if applied to a camera but could work well in the BW printing stage for subtle effects.
I mentioned diffusion which makes the print softer, hides grain and bleeds the blacks into the whites like wet black ink, an effect which is very subtle yet can work well on a portrait, especially if enlarged a lot (50x60cm from 6x6cm).
I am looking through Cokin filters. The small A series seems to fit the Kaiser filter holder.
"Dreams" for example could create a more pronounced effect than diffusion filters. And then you have all those silly effects that could have a printing application if controlled well (stars, split field, etc).

Another thing I am thinking of is to use the filter holder to hold burning or dodging masks. Of course the have to be small and it won't be accurate but for general adjustments they would be fine.

What do you think? Have you tried anything like that before?
