Type of palstic used for film spools

I've got a ton of film spools from 120 & 35 to recycle. Does anyone know what number code this plastic would be?

I would not call Polystyrol "unbreakable"...


Anyway, good that someone is inclined in sorting waste.
But meanwhile we got more heaps of waste for most different haulings than we can handle...

Well, 21 heaps!


Luckily those type 136 cassettes I can trash complete (can and spool) on the "packaging" heap (a bag that will be collected every two weeks).

Crap! I was afraid of that. My recycling center only takes 1 & 2. I hate to toss in the trash, any ideas?
 
You can always stick them on eBay. They always seem overpriced new and I'm sure there is a market for second hand reels.
 
The 120 spools can fetch a nice price on eBay depending on the region. So they said in a local forum last time I checked when they joked about that.
I have a couple of them kept as spares in my desktop and unconsciously I play with them; some people do that with pens and pencils grabbing them and handling without purpose.
 
Hang on, just re-read your original post. You're not talking about developing reels are you. Ebay probably ins't your best bet them.

Maybe you could donate them to a local pre-school for use as craft material?
 
The people who build their own pinhole cameras all seem to need at least one .

That may be my best bet. At least I can recycle the metal from the 35 cartidges.

I often see 120 film spools on e-bay, not sure who is buying them (although I could not resist one lot of the old wooden ones) Craft supplies is a likely use. I can't imagine any photographer who develops their own film being short of a spare spool or 20.

The 35mm Cans are also very popular for Geo-Cacheing, and storing various bit of vegetative material.
 
PS #06 is the same as the styrofoam coolers and coffee cups. In St. Louis it is the only type of plastic we cannot recycle. At our school I was teaching at we did a trial run of recycling polystyrene in a big vat of citrus goop. The "goop" supplier was planning to use the stuff in coating driveways after it had melted into poly styrene liquid. Anyway, that's the only time I've ever heard of anybody being able to recycle #6 plastic, or in our case foam.
