Ty-D-Bowl 125PX

I just processed my first roll of 120 125PX. I did a water pre-soak for about 5 minutes and when I dumped the water, what came out looked like Ty-D-Bowl. It was blue-green and looked pretty thick. I've never seen it before except maybe a purplish tint with Tmax. The negatives came out fine and are perfectly clear (no tint).

What was that?

It scared the dog out of me because I had just finished mixing some stop bath and thought I might have poured the wrong stuff in for the soak and dissolved the emulsion.

That is the anti-halation layer.

Is it only on the 120? I've done PX in 35 many times.

Different films have different colors to the anti-haliation coating on the back side of the film. When one doesn't presoak, it seems the developer seems to neutralize the color of the dissolved backing, but if you presoak in plain water, you should be prepared for quite a bit of color in your water. It is normal.

It's on all the film I use: 35mm, 4x5 and 8x10.

Some of the Agfa films would come out jade green. A lovely color that I'll miss.
