I have two classes coming up this spring- Intro to Still Life and Understanding your Practice - The Photo Project. Both classes will be taught 100% online, so even if you don't live in the Washington DC area, they are accessible.

Still Life Photography is a six week course geared to introducing people to the genre. We will cover how to get started in your own home with the minimum requirements (a table near a window) as well as more sophisticated alternatives. The course is equipment-agnostic; you can use any camera available to you from a smartphone to a large format view camera. The important part is that you learn to think about still life as not just a bowl of fruit, and that you have fun!

Understanding your Practice is an eight week class about coming to understand how you approach photographic projects. It is a guided meditation and opportunity for introspection on how you work, and how to work better. We will use the questionnaire that structures Photo Work: Forty Photographers on Process and Practice, Sasha Wolf, ed., Aperture Press, as a guide to discussion of our own ways of working, from conceiving a project through to its final disposition be that a gallery show, book, website, blog post, a drawer in your desk or even the trash bin. We will each conceive of a personal mini-project and engage in constructive critique throughout the course.
