I've just been reading some notes on two-bath toning by Eddie Ephraums. He states that if one partially tones a print, then it must be rinsed and refixed afterwards. Does anyone else out there in Apugland do this or will a thorough wash suffice. Many thanks, Blights.

I only fix again when using KRST. I use a bleach/redevelop sepia toner from time to time, but there is no re-fix stage. I would think that it is the partial toning part that he is referring to. Although, if you bleached back and then only partly toned, you would lose image density depending on how far you toned and the remaining silver would need to be fixed out - more of a tone and reduce method I would think...

With a bleach-redevelop toner, like odorless sepia, it's important to fix after toning to remove residual halide left from the bleach, but unreacted with the toner. Otherwise, this halide will print out and change the tone of the print over a period of hours or days (possibly even weeks) after you've left it looking the way you want. And of course, after fixing, the print must be fully rewashed...
