TTL question

Could be ANY 35mm camera, but i am think about the Nikon F2S and SB. What made their meters "better".
Is it simply that the LED requires less Power to move than a Needle does, or were there improvements to the quality of the light sensor themselves.?

I am currently working on a DP2 finder (F2S). It is sensitive down to 8 seconds, or was originally. Now 45 years later I believe I'd stay away from it and stick with the DP1 or go on to DP3 or DP12 But then I'd still stick with DP1. The LED finders are hard to see in sunlight. Besides, what good is sensitivity down in extreme low light? Because down there, film reciprocity problems have kicked in. So what good is it? LED requires more power, not less.

Edit: I don't know why DP1 only goes down so far and DP2 goes farther. They both have CdS cells, so why can DP2 go lower? I speculate that the metering circuit has some amplifying capability. But then...there's that reciprocity thing again. Nah... I'm done with DP2, 3 and 12. A meter movement is a simple circuit and very dependable. Although if somebody put an F2Sb in my hands, I'd take it. Rare and collectible.

Yes, sad but true. Even a TTL meter requires using head and mind to determine proper exposure. An overly accurate meter can cause one to become too fiddling about exposure.

The improvement is in the sensor material and circuitry. Selenium was used for a while then was replaced by silicone and silicone blue. The circuitry improved so that the minor changes in light levels detected by the sensor material was transmitted to the readout.

TTL as in "Through The Lens" or TTL as in "Transistor-Transistor Logic" ?

If the former, the answer for a lot of folks is that TTL light meters meters are not necessarily better (than a hand held for example). The marketing pitch that we've all bought into is that TTL (through-the-lens) metering is more accurate because it sees exactly what the film sees. I think, "easier to use" and "more convenient" is probably the best we can say about the benefits of through-the-lens metering. A carefully used hand held incident light meter can certainly give the user a more accurate picture of the light.

If you're asking why a light meter designed around modern electronics is better than a (relatively simple) analog meter circuit composed entirely of discrete parts...that's a whole different issue.

There are many 35m slrs and some 35mm rangefinders that can provide the TTL metering that you are looking for. Which ones fit your hands, feel good for your to operate and fit in our budget. There is a wide selection for you.
