mail order suggestions
I know the request was for local pickup sources.
All of my experience is with mail order. I have two boys, and a family life that keeps me too busy even to get into downtown, where there are chemistry retailish outlets. Shipping costs are usually the last thing on my list when I am photo pursuing (except maybe when I *bay scored a dry mount press that was 3000km away).
I have had excellent service from the formulary. They are the only source for reasonalbe quantities of glycin that I am aware of, so my love of ansco 130 and other warm tone developers will keep me as one of their customers.
I have had great service from Artcraft. Mike shipped me a pound of CD-3, and didn't like the way it had darkened, but still shipped it, to keep me supplied. So then he got in fresh stock, and shipped me the new stuff as well before he ever charged me for anything. I paid for one pound of CD-3 and shipping charges just once.
JD Photochem is my primary supplier. Johnny retired a few years ago, and now Claire runs the show. She has treated me very well, and seems to have maintened the service just like the original JD had it.
I usually order one heavy thing , along with what ever other powder goods I want, to get the shipping in line with what I want to tolerate. That usually means a gallon of amm thio and the other necessary fixings to keep me in TF-3 or superfix until the next urge to splurge comes along.
She is outside of Montreal, but regularly slips packages into the US to allow good US shipment costs. I ask her to parcel post me stuff to here in Canada, just west of Toronto, and the well packed box turns up quickly; the last order was even delivered a day and a half after she had shipped it.
