Trying out a 1 year 1 kit challenge... and its all gonna be film! oh.. and then scanned! so just a smidge hybrid.

I will primarily be shooting Portra 400 (c-41) and it will be lab developed. I will also be shooting a pinch of Pan F 50 here and there which I will develop myself at home using a Jobo daylight tank with basic chemistry. Scanning will be done at home on an ancient Epson flatbed or with my Phone (iPhone 7+) via a light table.

The kit includes:

Canon EOS 1 (35mm SLR) (49.99$ + 8.95$ postage)
Canon 50mm f1.8 MKI (Metal mount) (49.99$ + Free postage)
Panasonic 2CR5 "PHOTO" (6.25$ + Free postage)
Total: 115.18$ USD

Low budget, stupid simple, and easy to replace. Minimal Risk Minimal Investment.

As of right now, everything is purchased (waiting on some pieces to arrive).

I'll post photos here as I go. Comments Welcome.

The Canon 50/1.8 EF is a decent lens; Mk I actually nicer than Mk II. You may find it a bit noisy and not as fast as what you're used to, but it has very good optical quality. Your EOS 1 is also a very good choice.

My Rebel G (EOS 500N) and utilitarian 50/1.8 Mk II produces surprisingly good results.

For 15 years all I had was one camera body, one lens (55/2), and B&W film. Sure, there were some limitations, but I produced a lot of good images.

Color film and processing is expensive. Get a 15 watt light bulb and a piece of glass and make contact sheets of your black and white negatives . Get 1 tray use the same developer you used to develop your film just save the once used in a full bottle. Same fixer RC paper.

There's nothing better for teaching proper exposure than a contact proof sheet. If you are good every image on the sheet will look good. I use an incident meter, but sunny 16 etc. Works just fine. Someone on here posted a video on Edward Weston, all he did was contact prints. 4x5 to 8x10 film. Didn't have use for an enlarger.
Have fun!

Gonna echo mshchem over here.

Get a tank, a c-41 kit and some sort of scanner. Over a year this will save you a lot of money. I send maybe one roll a year to a lab.

OP says it all! Lol

I will be souping the Pan F at home. Scanning at home.

I chose color print and lab development for convenience. I don’t mind the price.
