I processed a roll of fomapan 100 in 120, at 1+100 in rodinal and let it dry for 24h. I have some deffect on the upper (lower) side of the emulsion :
But it seem there is two problems, on the following picture in portrait orientation, one problem (the foggy part) remain on the upper side, the other one (the sharp pinch/drops) keeps a top->bottom direction.
I think they two problem have separate causes. The first one i think if from the manufacturing. The second one is a mishandling when i processed...
Mostly bubbles, usually due to insufficient developer volume and sometimes remnants of surfactant (photoflo) from a previous session in the tank.
Just use 50ml or so more developer than you're doing now. And tap the tank firmly on the table/counter after inversions. Agitate sufficiently.

FWIW, the residue on reels can be from photo-flo, or it can be from other contributors such as gelatin from film.
And it can build up incrementally over time.

For that reason, I remove the film from the reels before I put the film in PhotoFlo in a separate container. That beats scrubbing reels with a toothbrush every time I use them.
+1 for removing the film from the reels before the photo flo dip, which is a dip for me, see-sawing left to right for 30 sec, distilled water, drain off of one corner, then hang. Then I use a cotton pad called Webril, presoaked in the flo, pressed dry as much as I can, then one single long wipe on either side of the film top to bottom, then left alone. Film dries as soon as it can, no streaks, dust, scratches ever.
