I order all my film and paper from freestyle and just ordered 50 single roll boxed tri-x 120 size for $3.79 a roll.Looking down the list I noticed unboxed Tri-x for $4.49 a roll-the future is on the way!Buy 'em up.:D

Kodak has announced that single rolls will disappear, and only 5-packs remain (120 format, and Tri-X only as far as I understand). The amount of packing material they save will be pretty substantial over a year.

The prices change often. I saw that the 5 pack was about 4.29 a roll. The "Unboxed" price is probably higher because they have to print stickers and such.
If you are ordering 10 or more rolls at a time, you may as well get the boxes also.

wouldn't the production of 220-film cut the costs of packing in ... half?

It would, however, vastly increase the cost of disposal for unsold stock :whistling:

I happened to notice in a CVS the other day the price for a single roll of Tri-X was a whopping $7.79.

Ilford film is already more than Kodak. It may have more to do with costs than current financial situation, but in any case it's not that bad in the overall scheme of things.

After the news today from Kodak we will have to see how much longer Tri-X will be available at any price.

Why do you assume that Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing automatically means the end of film? The reason to go into Chapter 11 protection is to restructure the company. It does not necessarily mean the end of Kodak, but it could very well mean the beginning of a leaner and more competitive business where they're able to shed the parts that bleed cash.
That's just my view, and only time will tell what truly happens. I understand a price increase. Tri-X in 120 at $3.79 per roll was pretty inexpensive compared to Ilford, and even Foma.

After the news today from Kodak we will have to see how much longer Tri-X will be available at any price.
