Tri-X at iso 800

Tri-X isn't is/was a photojournalists' film, so does it matter whether it's really 400 or 800? 800 is fine if you are short of light, even 1600 can be done. The problem is the grain gets bigger with every push, so it's a question of how much light you really have. For normal use, in good daylight, I would not rate it at 800 simply because I don't want the grain. But if I have to shoot at night, I'd push it to 1600/3200 and develop accordingly.
