Tri-X 120 out of stock?

Hey folks,

120 Tri-X is out of stock at B&H, Adorama, Amazon, my local shops, and "call for availability" at Freestyle. B&H has been out for several weeks. 35mm rolls are available, but not 120. Anybody know what's up?

Try fomapan 400 or HP5+
My local shops (UK) seem to suffer similar problems cept for Kodak.

Sounds like they're out of stock.

Seriously, don't read too much into these stores' product statuses. There was a similar "scare" a few months back when no one could find Superia 800. B&H listed it as "discontinued" of all things. Some time passed and it was available again everywhere. Probably related to production runs or distribution or some such...

I think Jeff nailed it. Tri-X in 120 is wonderful, especially in D76. Smoooooth. There's cheaper films, but this is a very good one.

I've been waiting since mid-March for my order of 120. I'm guessing that Kodak is letting orders build up so they can make a big run.

HP-5 is also a very nice film, but I get a bit extra speed out of Tri-X & Diafine.

Seems to be US specific, Tri-X in 120 format is in stock everywhere I looked in Central Europe.

Hi

Confirmed seen it on shelves here in UK.
e.g. Tmax400 is a reasonable fall back if it is available locally.
But I'd imagine it is retailers are stocking less as well as KA (over) doing the JIT sourcing, I keep an insulated box full of 120 mono, just in case I cant buy any on Sunday, the local Lomo shop normally has rebrands...

FPP Currently had Tri-X in 120 in stock: Dead Link Removed and Freestyle is showing it in stock but low.

I tried to purchase a 5-pack of Tri-X 400 120 in Minneapolis, at West Photo. They wanted 41 bucks for it. I told them that I expected the price to be a little higher than B&H or Adorama, but not 60% higher.

If anybody is desperate for some Tri-X 120, pick up your phone and order some from West Photo. Expect to be robbed, though...

Better to see it sell out than languish on the shelf.

Based on some articles we've seen and the slowly up-creeping prices of MF gear, maybe demand has ticked up a little bit higher than what EKA has forecast?

Kodak has a production schedule.

The intervening distributors have purchasing schedules.

Individual retailers have purchasing schedules.

Everyone (manufacturers, distributors and retailers) is constantly trying to keep unsold inventories to an absolute minimum, because that is how the Walmarts of the world have educated us.

All it takes is one popular blog post on using Tri-X in your Holga, and everyone should expect retail shortages.

Supply chain management. Inventory is shunned like it's evil, and some people think they can predict the future.

The only way to counteract it is to purchase a steady supply of film, and replenish before it gets too low.

As a rule, in my film stash there is always about 50 rolls each of Tri-X or HP5+ in 120 and 135-36. That way I never really have to worry about running out.

You could HP5+ if it is cheaper in your local shop.

Kodak has made their usual price hike. But you still can get a Dead Link Removed for 25$ USD before shipping.

I went into panic after this thread; I've just finished my stock of Tri-x and I started to search it at my usual providers. I've found tri-x 120 but at a very high price, around 5,50 eur; today in Italy you can find the 5 rolls pro-pack at 21 eur only in one specilazied online store.
