A few days ago I shot this roughly 3:1 macro shot with the Nikkor 120 macro. I'm also going to try some extreme macros using screw-on diopters (which cost about $5 at KEH).
Thank you Ted for spreading the word as to this tremendous buy! I hope I avoid the doghouse.....I gave into temptation and placed my order last nite with B&H. The 120mm Nikon macro lens is on the way. Thus, B&H still has this lens available for others who are interested.
BTW, does anyone have a preference between this 120mm macro the Nikon's 210mm macro?
The actual coin has a gold colored rim and a silver center -- might be interesting to enlarge to 11x14 and hand color it.
I've done 1:1 macro with a Schneider 210 APO Symmar, and I've needed to use an extension monorail for it (and stretch my bellows pretty far). The 120 does 1:1 with complete ease. Larger than life macros (esp above 3:1) become pretty tricky because the camera blocks all the light.
I just missed out on the B&H sale and am after one for a Uni project where the f5.6 focusing would be an advantage as would the lesser lens bellow needed to focus this lens... it's in a pretty dark and cramped space!
Anyway please send me a PM if you have one of these lenses spare. Cheers.
