Being a founding member of the "cheapskates and scroungers" club, I have spent a lifetime looking for simple ways to do things. At approximately $4.00/sht for 8x10 film (CDN), I decided that a more economical approach was PlusX Aero which including waste is running about $0.50/sht (CDN). The problem is reloading holders while on the road without having to pack a cutting device. I decided that the answer was to carry pre-cut sheets, but how to do it and be able to separate the fresh film from the exposed as well as protect the sheets from possible physical damage? The answer was ABS tubes. I made two 3" diameter tubes with a cap on one end and a threaded plug on the other. I put about two dozen sheets in one tube labelled "fresh" and when I ran out of film in the holders, I emptied them ( in a logged order) into a tube labelled "exposed" and then reloaded the holders from the "fresh" tube. It worked like a charm. The tubes could rattle around in any old packaging tub without damage and were even relatively water tight in the event of a disaster. When I got home, I was able to develop the film in reverse order of the storage log according to the exposures noted in my photo diary (a Hilroy spiral-wound students notebook).

cheers
