Any good photography stores, or local spots worth checking out? my friend that lives out there will be taking me out to the mountains and probably to the local botanical garden

Around Denver, leaves are turning, but colors aren't at their peak yet, but you should be able to catch some nice colors at higher elevation, weather permitting. Sometimes as you pass Georgetown (one of a number of scenic mountain towns along I-70), you can see one of their Shay steam locomotives in operation. Gobs of photo opportunities there alone both as spectator and passenger.

Englewood Camera ought to be one of the better places to find secondhand and film-related items. Denver Pro Photo tended to focus more on the film + processing itself. Have not been to either in ages as they're pretty far out of my way.

Denver Botanic Gardens has a large enclosed space housing tropical vegetation. Sometimes in the middle of winter, I wish I could live there.

Agree with everything 4season said.

Yes, both Englewood Camera and Denver ProPhoto are great places. They are now only a mile or 2 apart from each other. Englewood is on Broadway, a block south of Littleton Blvd. ProPhoto is tucked back a couple blocks off Broadway on South Grant Way, just north of County Line Road. Englewood is more hobbyist-oriented and has a great and changing selection of used cameras and darkroom equipment and supplies, along with digi stuff, lighting, etc. I was just at ProPhoto's new store last week and they have LOTS of film in stock along with all kinds of professional-level photo and video equipment. Both places process film in house.

Along with the wonderful enclosed space, the Botanical Gardens have several different styles of outdoor gardens, from European to Japanese. And once you get to the mountains, photo opportunities are endless, almost overwhelming. I would try to check out Redrocks Amphitheater and the surrounding park and rock formations. The downtown 16th St Mall has a full and broad assortment of urban humanity, if you're into street photography. And there is a lot of interesting architecture and art.

The Blue Bear:

and the Dancing Aliens:

are just a couple blocks from each other.

Then there is Blucifer at the airport:

but good luck getting near it without being arrested. It actually killed it's creator.

I was there last year and didn't smell a whiff surprisingly.

Right. I've only smelled it a couple times since it was legalized. But I'm old and don't hang out where there are a lot of younger people.

There is The Camera Trader in Englewood which is quite good for used cameras.

Usually around early October there is a pretty good swap meet at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds near Lakewood.
Not sure if it is the time you will be there.
Last time I attended I got a really nice 3x4 Speed Graphic with a bunch of slotted holders and space age looking Honeywell flash unit all for $40.
The holders are worth way more but the best part was giving the TSA agents a fit with the flash unit on the way home.

The Camera Trader is no longer open as far as I know. They were selling out of Denver Pro, before they moved to Littleton, but I don't know if The Camera Trader moved with them.

I didn't see him at the new store when I visited. I saw one of his craigslist ads a couple of weeks ago with the old Jason St. address . It's a pretty tiny space, about the size of a single office and his hours are weird because he does his printing business out of his house.

And the swap meet is this sunday.
