The last roll I finished a couple of days ago in my OM-1 exhibited weird behiavor at the end of the roll. Portra 160 36 exposures.
I loaded up the film as I should (a couple months ago though), always checking the rewind lever tension so not to be winding unthreaded film. Up to frame #28 as far I recall, there was tension on the roll spool and winding was normal.
From frames 28 to 40(?) I took the camera on my backpack for a bike ride. Hot, sunny, Mediterranean bike ride...
I shot normally until frame 38 or so, when the counter said "E". Still I thought that I might be able to shoot up to 40, and I did. But the camera kept winding normally with the rewinding lever on the roll not moving, and checking the tension it still had it. Very weird behiavor.
Did like 6 or 7 actuations this way and the camera kept cocking and winding. The film was tense.
I'm wondering if the issue is due to heat and/or something being actioned or messed (Rewind?) while on the bag.
I rewound the film into the roll and everything seemed normal. No chips of acetate that might indicate sprockethole tearing.
I have a written off roll of 135-36 at home that I use for checking the film transport. It acts normal!
At the end of the roll the winding lever cannot be actioned anymore, as normal, unless actioning the rewind switch and holding it as per double exposure override.
The roll of film is headed to the lab and I am awaiting it to be processed...
Oh but Murphy's law! I am leaving for 5 months for Sweden next Wednesday and this camera I want to take. At least there there is no blazing Mediterranean heat.
Well, I hope at most to get a quite interesting multiexposed last frame. Did anyone have such funny behiavor?
