transparent sheet from paper negative

Could I make a transparent sheet from a large paper negative? Does it work the same as a scan from a sheet of film?
I want to make a platinum print, and I'm not sure if it will work with the paper negative directly on the platinum coated surface.

Contact printing from paper negatives is quite doable, although I've never done it myself. Digital negatives can be made from transparencies, but you will need a pigment-based printer. Have you looked in the alternative process and hybrid sub-forums here? Try searching on 'paper negatives'.

Sure... just scan your paper negative into the computer and then follow the instructions (there are many out there) for making a digital negative in Photoshop and print the resulting file on to transparency film.

You will need to skip the inversion step in preparing your file, the instructions generally assume you are starting with a digital positive. The key to good negatives is the curve one applies to the data.

The most commonly used film is Pictorico OHP. However many other films made for use in use in silk screening will work as well and are somewhat less expensive. You will need a printer that uses pigment ink as dye inks are not opaque enough in the UV.

If you have the original film negative why not scan that and edit as needed then invert, flip horizontal and print on Pictorico. As suggested develop and save the curve so you can apply it to other images. I have enlarged many negatives on to both x-ray duplicating film and on to Pictorico to make platinym/palladium prints. The advantage of a digital Pictorico negative is when you make a test platinum test print and see a change is needed you can go back to the computer and make a new negative on the spot and then continue with your platinum printing session

I posted in your other thread about this... I don't use a pigment printer but a cheap epson printer and don't have issues and I have made all sorts of alt process prints using dye inks. the trick isn't so much a negative issue but a density of your paper and light issue. if you live someplace where there is a lot of UV light you are in good shape if you are like me in a place that is dreary for 5 months a year a UV light source might be a useful purchase or build.

I use large format paper negatives and pinhole cameras, so I don't have an 'original' film neg.
Contact printing works fine most of the time, but I do have some very thin and soft negatives that just don't seem to work
Prints become just flat and murky
So maybe I could scan the negs, and print them on a transparent sheet and use that either for silvergelatin- or platinum printing.
But first I am going to try if increasing the light source works, like jnantz said.
