OK, so after 3 months of diligent research, I finally decided to take my new/old Speed Graphic out to shoot my first exposures ever (120 roll). I mount on the tripod, practice focus on the GG at various distances, and tip the tripod slightly forward. The camera slides off and falls lens-first, four feet to the ground. (Rule #1: Make sure the quick shoe is locked in place.) Is there really a future for me in LF?
Fortunately, that bad boy was built like a tank and suffered no apparent damage. I shot off a roll of 120 transparencies and sent them out for processing. But now it ocurred to me, "What do I do with them when get them back?"
My question: How do most people store their transparencies? My local shop didn't know anything about 120 mounts, although I did snag the lone box of cardboard 4x5 mounts that looked like they'd been on the shelf since the Hoover administration.
There must be a better option than the sleeves they come in. Any advice out there? (By the way, Googling "slide mount" yielded lots of results for 35mm, but jack for the larger formats.)
Thanks in advance.

I use Gepe medium format mounts [/URL]

I'm so curious - this is new to me. I didn't even know that there were folks who cut their roll film into individual slides.

Is this only so that they can be put into a slide projector - - or is there some other advantage that you feel it provides when compared to the storage option for negatives? (... unless you also cut those into individual frames, too)?

Sleeves? For medium format I use negative sleeves (actually 3 ring binder pages).

For 4x5 I use side lock sleeves (which might be the ones they come in... I do use the ones the transparencies come back from the lab in). I use a file box with 4x6 note cards (I had 500 printed and filled out about half for my back catalog of negatives / transparencies). Each card has an ID number and some notes, and the ID number is included with the lightroom scan. That really helps locating the negative. Filed by date, with separators for month.

35mm gets mounted. I find 35mm film to behave better in both the scanner and enlarger when mounted. I do not have this problem with medium or large format.

Those mounts are for projection - so of course they only make sense if you have a medium format projector.

projectors for 120 are pricy

I recently saw a nice one made by Hasselblad for $1,000.00usd and this is the neighborhood a decent one likes to reside.

Everyone raves about how good they look projected.
I guess I can only dream for awhile.

Bruce:

I looked long and hard and then found a used Rollei projector for $200.00 in the most surprising of places - a camera store renowned for high prices!

Luck apparently matters.
