Traditional printing lab in the UK

I understand the whole machine print obviously not being handcrafted, but I was hoping for a lab who can look after all my requirements. So if I need a cheap and quick machine print I can deal with the one lab.

I'll have a better idea, once I see all three prints together, but I do like the edges burnt in and would rather stay away from Photoshop. I also want proper contact sheets with the actual negative numbers and not a poor resolution scan and print job wrongly numbered 40.jpg hence the search for traditional labs.

If the scan and print method works out, I can live with it; but two out of two pro labs have failed so far.

Tom; doing colour printing myself is another investment and would require a large turnover of work for it to be economical. I did a bit years ago when I worked for a company, but I couldn't be bothered with the hassle!

If you need to manipulate the print, then surely you are going to need to go down the hand print route on the enlarger, or scan, photoshop etc.? I'm sure you know this though.

I know colour contact sheets are a standard list item for Palm. Their colour hand prints are excellent.

They also have a couple of Imacon virtual drum scanners - if you did decide you wanted a serious scan!

PS - I don't work for Palm! Just trying to put in a good word for one of the last small professional labs, run by experienced film enthusiasts.
