Every once in a while I find myself in the countryside, though not often. I think a photo series of tractor portraits is a good idea. I'm talking about the tractors themselves, not the juxtaposition of tractors and people, though that could be interesting too.

As a corollary, old abandoned farm equipment and abandoned cars can also be fun. This summer I found an abandoned car with a small tree growing out of the side window that reminded me of someone driving the car with the arm and head leaning out of the window.

What do you think?

Tractors are a great theme. Here is an example of an old Farmall tractor in rural Virginia, from a Kodachrome slide taken with a Rollei 35SE camera (the model with the Sonnar lens).

As someone who used to restore tractors and farm equipment, I agree. I sort of burned out on non work related wrench turning, but I found I really enjoy the aesthetics of equipment, both restored and abandoned.

I have a projected project next year of shooting "portraits" of steam powered traction engines. I've been accumulating the necessary materials, equipment and hardware to make this intense, short term project possible.

Wish me luck!

Shot these with my Fuji GW690iii, unfortunately my meter was off by over one stop and I under exposed everything I shot that day. Pike Days Antique equipment show in SW Pa.

RJS... share those tractor photos. This is a "mixed workflow" forum...just start your own thread specifying "Digital":

Here's the rule: "You can post all workflow types in the General Discussion area. When creating new threads, select the workflow type Analog, Hybrid, Digital or None."

One of the advantages of most of today's digital cameras is the ability to record sound while photographing. Those tractors are noise machines.

If anyone is going to be in the SW Pennsy area this weekend and loves old equipment and classic cars, check it out:

I went to Pike Days a couple of years back, cool show, camera and tripod friendly. I may be going on Sunday, we'll be close by for the weekend.
