I am currently researching possible options for my first foray into the world of 4x5 large format, and have recently discovered the Toyo VX125. The light, compact design seems quite ingenious, and would be near-ideal for my intended uses (mainly landscape and architecture, with possibly some simple portraiture) whilst maintaining a high degree of rigidity and movement precision. The restrictions on rail length with the default setup shouldn't be an issue as I can't see myself using lenses longer than 300mm.
My one possible concern is with the tripod mounting block. I use an Arca Swiss tripod head and quick release system, so would need to replace the default quick release plate the camera is provided with. I assume I could just use some form of Arca Swiss universal QR plate with a 1/4" screw, but the camera manual does not provide information as to whether there are additional holes for locating pins to prevent twisting of the plate, or provide dimensions for the block so that a QR plate with an appropriate lip could be used as an alternative anti-twist solution.
I realise that this camera is not exactly common, but if anyone here has any experience with it and could chime in I would be very grateful, as I am seriously considering this camera as a good all-round option.
Thanks.
