Poisson-You may be right about some of that but the view camera is another toy and I like toys! I'm retired and have noting to spend my money on other than my dog and lots of time to do whatever I want. Indeed, it may not be for me. That's the gamble we all take when we venture into parts unknown. I'll admit I'd probably never print anything over 11x14 as 16x20's and greater take up a lot of wall space that I don't have anymore. But-what an 11x14 would look like from a 4x5 negative would be super to look at.

A 12x16" from 6x7 is bloody nice too. All my Ilfochrome printing (1991 to 2010) was done from 35mm, pushing it to the limit. Would never ever go the Ilfochrome way now with superior digital RA-4 print production.

We can make a deal. I'll send you some money if you'll send me that 75 2.8 lens for the 6x7...yeah, that's the ticket. I still have all the Ciba prints I made other than some I gave away or sold.

I made a shot at night at the Fair that I was proud of and ended up selling a bit over 30 of them. Each night before closing they would shoot fireworks over the Sunsphere. I got my 6x7, tripod and Ektachrome 50(Tungsten) and went across the street on a hill and focused using f11, locked up the mirror and with the cable release, exposed when the fireworks were at their peak. I had no idea as to the exposure but used 2,4,and 6 seconds and one of them(forgot which) turned out the best. That's the one I made those cibas from.

I checked out Ken Lee's Gallery. There is lots of good information there. I loved the shot of the 4x5 Tachihara Wooden Field Camera-beautiful. I have a Manfrotto 3211 tripod with 3047 head that I use to use with the 6x7. I'd say that would accommodate most 4x5 cameras I'd likely buy.

FWIW, those Cibachrome tubes do a great job with black and white RC paper, for those situations where getting out the trays is impractical.

Now, there's a thought I never even considered. I always used trays and had a large sink I ended up having to build in the room as it would have never fit through the door. I still have everything I once used in the darkroom, it's all just stored away under the stairwell and the sink was never dismantled. The plumbing is still intact but not used in years.

I used to own a 4x5 Tachihara but sold it after I bought my 8x10. The Tachi's are really light weight and have a very bright fresnel screen. They also garner a lot of attention from admirers. I sold mine because I bought an 8x10 and most of my lenses were too large or too heavy for the Tachihara. I've got a 4x5 back for my Wehman so I don't really need a dedicated 4x5 camera.

If your Manfrotto will hold a Pentax 6x7 it will hold a lightweight 4x5.
