Hi,

An ebay seller of a TOYO 69/45 Roll Film Holder says it's functioning properly but "The black sponge has deteriorated." The manual doesn't mention anything about this. Please share your knowledge.

I don't know this roll holder in particular, but that sounds like a foam light seal has deteriorated. Probably an awkward auto-translation.
