Toyo 45AX Field Camera: Nearly mint condition. Acquired from the estate of a late friend and photography professor at U.C. San Diego, Phel Steinmetz. This camera was rarely and then never used as Phel transitioned into digital in the last decade. I personally used it once, when the lens I was using for a shot was just a little too long; Phel loaned me this camera with his 10mm-shorter lens and I got my picture. I was so impressed with the smoothness and ease of use of the camera that eventually I got one myself, and it's been my primary 4x5 camera ever since.
The Toyo 45AX is a folding metal flat-bed field camera, with base tilts and 12+ inches of bellows draw. It will accomodate a 55mm wide angle lens on a recessed board (Toyo literature says it will take a 47mm lens) and a 300mm lens at full extension. I use a 400mm telephoto on mine which only requires about 260mm of draw. It has front swing and tilt, front rise and fall, modest front shift, and rear tilt and swing. Combining the front and rear tilts with an inclined camera orientation gives a healthy increase in rise or fall. The reversible Graflock back can be switched from horizontal to vertical orientation. This camera has a two-way spirit level in place of the flash shoe, and Velcro strips which allow for attachment of a focusing cloth.
This camera is for sale as pictured, but WITHOUT the folding focusing hood. Not pictured, but included with the camera, are one 12.5mm recessed lensboard with size 0 hole, a Ross focusing cloth, a 7X focusing loupe, and a Tundra waterproof case, which has room for lenses and accessories. The case is not beautiful, but will provide great protection during shipping. See future postings for lenses, roll film holders, lensboards, Pentax Digital Meter.
Price: $595, plus shipping.

Conversion kit to a Toyo 45AII: The Toyo Folding Focusing Hood and Toyo Revolving Graflock Back (as distinct from the reversible Graflock back of the 45AX) would make this camera identical to the more expensive (and slightly heavier) 45AII camera. The revolving back will fit on any Toyo 4x5 camera. The folding hood will also fit on any metal Horseman 4x5 camera. Includes an extra ground-glass assembly (without grid and marked specifically for 6x9 roll film format).
Price for Conversion kit: $260, plus shipping.
