Hi,

I know I can get statistics on the search engines but would rather have some real world guestimates of what kind of weather to expect and what to pack for.

Thanks! Sean

We have been getting some May like weather already. Cool mornings with warm daytime temperatures reaching up to 20+ degrees Celcius. Think shorts and t-shirt with a light jacket on the optimistic side. Pack some pants and if it does get a little cool or wet have a few items you can layer.

I have been out biking and hiking in shorts for the past few weekends.

It's Canada, Sean.

The May snow will be up to the top of the door of the igloos.

Ever been on a dog sled ?

Last year we had some of our hottest most humid weather in May. We also had some cool (well for May) temperatures. Snow is unlikely in Toronto but not ruled out as you head north (very little and melts in minutes). The range will likely be between 12(nightly low) and 25 C(daytime high). 20 celsius is about 68 F. Some rain, some fog, some sun, no snow regardless of some of our comedic southern neighbours. Actually some places south of get far more than we do (poor Buffalo).

Pack for warm weather, bring a decent jacket for rain, and a light sweater you can wear under it if required. If it does get cool, I'm sure someone could get you a nice APUG hoodie...

Shorts, pants, t-shirt or short sleeved shirts. A long sleeved shirt of decent weight (demin comes to mind) A hat (if you wear them, and I don't mean a toque) sunglasses, good walking shoes (runners/sneakers/hikers). a jacket for rain or wind, a light sweater to wear underneath if it gets a little cool at night.
You will NOT need snowshoes, a snowmoble suit, winter gloves/mitts, a balaclava, thermal underwear, or earmuffs.
In May we may get more snow than Hawaii, less rain than Brazil, be cooler than New Mexico and warmer than Moscow.
Hope that helps

What is a toque?

a "stocking cap"...here's the 'scoop' from Wikipedia:

"In Canada, a toque or tuque (IPA /tuk/) is a knit winter hat, originally a French-Canadian woolen hat. This "fashion" originated when coureurs des bois kept their woollen nightcaps on for warmth during cold winter days. The Canadian Oxford Dictionary regards the use of toque for this hat to be assimilated from the etymologically unrelated French word tuque."

Hey rogueish! Sounds like Wisconsin! haha  Either layiing out in the sun, our up to our ...erm... ears in snow! haha

Sean,
Check out http://www.theweathernetwork.com and click on Toronto. The weather is really changable this time of year. Could be really warm or cool and there is no way you can predict that far out. Safe to say it's a little early for flipflops or sandals. I would pack a gortex rain shell, a light sweater or fleece, and comfortable shoes as you will be doing a lot of walking. The weather could be like Aukland in September-October maybe.
For the American audience, Toronto shares the same climate as Chicago, roughly.

Bill
