Since it seems that the last effort for a social in the centre of the Canadian cosmos did not come to fruition, I am going to wade in from the north.

As we know, Nicole Boenig McGrade will be in Toronto on the 18, 19 June. I suggest getting together on Thursday, 18 June or Friday, 19 June to welcome her to Canada. After, of course, the natural light dims.

An alternative, or additional date, is 28 June, the day before Les McLean Day on 29 June. That may have to be moved to the end of the day on the 29th since he has some difficulty with Canadian beverages and he should be at least semi-conscious during his workshop (full or not-so-full bladder notwithstanding).

Time and location to follow depending on response. The likely neighbourhood will be Eglinton and Yonge, Mount Pleasant, Bayview or thereabouts.

Any takers?

Brian, I'm in Toronto from 14th June until 3rd July but I do have committments with the Pride Workshop from 26th to 29th June, also a visit to White Pines to do some scouting for the Cornish Workshop in October. Why not try to arrange a time that both Nicole and myself can be at the shindig. I'll keep an eye on this thread during the next two weeks.

Do try to drum up some enthusiasm for the wonderful amber falling down water Brian. The folks who might attend the evening you are trying to arrange here would surely enjoy seeing you in the condition you were in when we were all at White Pines in February. :smile:

Ok .. so I suggest a bbq in honour of the Austrailian gal, we can throw on some shrimps to make her feel at home.
As well we will have some brew to please Les and Brian,, the bushmills are their problem.

I am thinking the Fri 20th evening after Nicoles workshop so Les will be present as well,, My humble home can be the location for the bbq,for those staying at the Roe Hampton it is a 3min walk... small back yard but comfortable.
So all APUGers are welcome and workshop attendees,, bring your stuff to eat or we will supply hamburgers and dogs..
If you want to attend pm me and I will provide the address.

Nicole workshop is almost completely full, we are now booking for the Mon and Tues the following week to do a repeat.

Looks like lots of people are looking forward to seeing you... No pressure now.

Bob;
Great that you have donated your backyard. So it is definitely the 20th June at Carnie's place. I will get the first three or four rounds. Just make sure that there are no flammable materials and a firepit if McLean is going to be there. I will gladly sacrifice my brain to drinking his Bushmills for his promise not to keep adding wood and stoking the fire.
Les, I will bring some very nice sipping whiskey from the Niagara Peninsula and, of course, some room-temperature Guiness. And if you promise to keep talking, I will promise to keep drinking.
Carnie, the Appleton Estates rum for you. And, of course, some nice chardonnay for Laura.

Suzanne, I am really glad that you are coming north and I am looking forward to meeting you. What is your beverage of choice? I am sure that I can find a Canadian option that will be a treat.

20 June, Bob's place.

We will talk about 29 June, Les, and the Pride Parade later and elsewhere.

I'll be passing through Toronto that weekend on my way home from a course in the US. I was planning to attend the parade. Will Les be an honorary member of the Dykes on Bikes?

Craig;
More likely the Iron Maidens.

Nicole;
I have seen some of those stubby holders from Oz; they may get seized at Customs.

I wish that I could be there, but ....

I really wish I could be there for this one. I would be, but this is a particularly busy summer for me. I just returned from a one-week back-country canoe trip in the central interior of Algonquin Park. My nephew is an Environmental Biologist who organizes a trip like this every spring. There were five people in our group. As 'adventures' go, this one was a real "character builder" . It was cold and rainy and windy for almost the entire time. We even woke to snow one morning. As opportunities for some great landscape photographs, it was ... not great. I dragged that 4x5 outfit in a Pelican case, and tripod, and a whole lot camping and canoeing gear for the whole trip. On Day 1, we did the longest portage in the park: 5.3 kms. In the end, I only exposed 7 frames, even though I had brought 48 loaded. Of those 7, I really think I could have gotten the same or similar without being in the remote "back-country". Anyway, right now, I am in Winnipeg on my way to look for pictures in the Badlands of Southern Alberta. I plan to take pictures of 'everything' between there and Mississauga by the end of August. I have even brought chemicals and trays with me to develop negatives in hotel bathrooms occasionally. Anyway, when you guys get together, hoist one or two for me. I am sorry that I won't get to meet Nicole this time around. Hopefully, next year we will all have a chance to get together again.

I'll be there

I also may get there early enough to take in shots near the fence of the scrap yard down the street before the security dogs are out like they seem to be once the sun goes down.

The visual experience I get from my place in suburbia is pretty uniform, and I find it mostly bland. So all of the varied industrial sites within easy striking distance of Bob's lab easily get me visually interested in shooting.

I was in Toronto earlier this week, and it was great to meet Nicole, see Bob, Dinesh, Les, and a few others. I'm sorry I wasn't able to stay for this big shindig tonight, and hope you all have fun, especially after all the very difficult work that went into this past week.

Best wishes to everyone.

Dinesh took this snap of Suzanne with my d*g*c*m at the the Granite. Les couldn't stop him.

I think he was trying to watch the Celtics game.

Thanks Bob for setting up the BBQ

It was wonderful to meet Nicole in person along with Brian, David William White and to see Les Maclean again.

For some reason the photos of Dinesh did not turn out.

Dinesh took this snap of Suzanne ...
Ah, now we know why she couldn't make it to the NEAPUG BBQ yesterday. :D

Drew was about at that point after two. His nerve endings haven't matured enough to take more than that. If I correctly recall his scientific explanation. Or Dinesh has taken a course or two at the Nanian Schoool of Photographic Art.

Regards, Art.

It was nice to see old friends and meet new ones.

Nicole has finished the first stage,, lecture,, two day workshop,family photos on Sat,, Today she is doing a child portrature session, mon tues another sold out workshop,, She is getting knakerd as Les would say but holding up really well. 8 straight days of working right off the plane from Paris. She will need the downtime at Photostock to catch her breath.

Bill , if you have any more photos , I would love to use them in the archives of events here at Elevator.

Thanks Bob for the barbecue. And special thanks for bringing Nicole north.
I would note that while Nicole was working on Australian time via Paris, she still the stamina to test her ankle on the pub dance floor while you went home. Thanks Nicole, you can really cut a rug.
And I don't know how all you anti-Dinesh posters have the gall to defame this polite, accommodating, kind young man. His erudition, sensitivity and insightful comments should be a model for all. .... Wait a minute, sorry, I forgot; at first he was all of that because he was on medication and couldn't drink. There was this character change as the night wore on. Dinesh, I don't know how you can live with yourself.
Looking forward to next week and Street Photography with St. Les.

More Photos

Here are some more photos from Friday night, not bad considering I was experimenting with Xtol for the third time.

In the first photo, Dinesh and part of Brian's head.
In the second, David William White and Mike Wilde
In the third, Bill Cowan, one person I have not met yet and Bob.
