Can I top off a newish bottle of adox rodinal with a newish fomadon to keep the air out? Or will it cause the earth to implode?

But seriously, I don't want to ruin my rodinal by mixing brands.

No it won't cause earth to implode or explode.

But They are different developers so you will be mixing two different developers. If that's what you want to achieve, go ahead. But since both will have slightly different activity, you will alter performance every time you do that. Also, if you top off rodinal with fomadon, you will have air ingress in fomadon bottle so what are you trying to achieve here?

A better solution would be to decant rodinal/fomadon in smaller PET bottles (and squeezing if necessary) to keep the air out. (Separate set of bottles for each developer)

Hi!
That depends of what Fomadon you are talking about.
Foma makes 3 different liquid developers all labelled Fomadon: LQN, LQR and R09.
I'm almost sure you are talking about Fomadon R09.
Next time, please be a bit more precise.

You don't need to do nothing of that.
All Fomadon liquid developers are normally sold in 250ml bottles, unless you got hold of some 5L bottles.
And Adox Rodinal is sold in 500ml bottles.

Both Adox Rodinal and Fomadon R09 (Rodinal clone) will keep for a very long time.
So, no need to panic.

I wouldn't worry about it, Rodinal or RO9 are essintialy the same, they will keep forever, they might go black, might thicken up over many years to an almost treacle like consistansy but they will still develop film as well as ever, I have used Rodinal out of a glass bottle that must have been 30 or maybe 40 years old, just the dregs, that I found at the back of the chemical cuboard as I had run out of Rodinal and wanted to get a film developed, and it was good as fresh, To answer your question, there is bound to be slight differences, and I would not chance it, just use them up one bottle at a time, the keeping qualities of Rodinal type developers in legendary

All I can say is that the rule in chemistry labs is never to combine two jars of chemicals even if their labels say they are exactly the same. You can never be sure that one jar is not contaminated. Now by combining them you now have a larger amount of possibly contaminated chemical.

Then don't mix the brands. Mixing them sounds foolish to me.
