Well, I certainly don't need another camera+lenses but, I picked up, at a local estate sale, a mint Topcon RE Super, + 4 lenses, focusing screens, etc, for $600.

I am NOT a collector, so, can devoted, happy Topcon users on APUG help me justify why I did this?

Like the rest of us, you can plead insanity. We're all crazy for film cameras.

And I don't even use 35mm film any more (or rarely)

Great system! Fine lenses!! Built like a tank!!!

The Super D was Topcon's attempt to join the big 5, (Canon, Minolta, Nikon, Olympus and Pentax) with a very well made comprehensive system it aimed to be a professional system alongside the Nikon F, it didn't fail on quality but by it's introduction most heavy users were committed to Nikon or Canon systems.

It wasn't just about what you owned but also what you could hire, in terms of specialist lenses etc and Nikon & Canon already had that sewn up.

Great system, let your students use it :D
