Not just sad for Vancouver. I'd imagine anyone who encountered him, even impersonally on the web, will be saddened.

In the days when I could be bothered with RFF, he was one of the few people who seemed both nice and knowledgeable.

I've also got one of his soft releases

Except I do not have one of his soft releases.

He was influential and will be missed.

RIP. It sounds like he had a life well lived and rich in friendships.

Great link Dennis! Thank you very much!
I will miss Tom a lot. We always swapped rolls of various films and had never ending film developers conversations. Still on my desk are 4 rolls of films he give me the last time I saw him on the end of November, rolled by himself.
RIP Tom and have great light and an unlimited supply of BW film wherever you are now.

Sad, news. I dealt with Mrs. A. when buying my soft-releases. She was a joy to deal with.
RIP

what a sad thing. I have two of his rapid winders and they are genius. He was more than happy to help me adjust one to work better on my Barnack Leica even though I bought it used, too.

Great inventor -- lovely guy.
