I am looking for my second lens for a newly purchased Nikon F4 which, by the way, I am already very fond of. Used Nikon glass on the bay is plentiful and somewhat affordable but I have heard countless positive opinions on the Tokina 100mm f2.8. So would this be a proper and useful attachment to my F4?
It'll work just fine on an F4. Unlike the current 105mm f/2.8 VR Micro-Nikkor it has an aperture ring, so you won't be stuck using P and S modes. You also won't be paying for a VR function you can't use.
For 35mm film, I can't think of a macro lens in the 90mm to 105mm range which wasn't at least excellent. My 25+ year old Tokina 90mm f/2.5 continues deliver great results on both film and digital cameras.
